Eva Brown (nee Day) married and moved to Wollaton in Nottingham in the early 1970s, where she spent over 50 years supporting children, young people and their families.
She was known by many people as “Auntie Eva”, for her dedication to local families, having fostered and childminded over 100 children for Nottingham City Council. She continued to be a registered Childminder into her mid-eighties, and was also a children’s chaperone for Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall Nottingham, Nottingham Playhouse and Central Television.
A life-long Salvationist, Eva ran a Sunday School from the front room of her house for many years and was heavily involved in running the Sunday Schools at Nottingham Aspley and Nottingham William Booth Memorial Halls Salvation Army corps. She was also the Brown Owl at the Aspley Salvation Army for some time.
Auntie Eva's Children Trust was set up as a legacy of Eva Brown to continue her life's work by providing small grants to children and young people in the Nottingham City area that need extra support. The focus is on those that don not qualify for other funding but would still benefit from a little helping hand.
